“How do I become an appraiser?”
Not surprisingly, this is a question we hear almost daily. Many people are considering a move into the appraisal profession and of course, want to know what is required to get there.
The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation sets licensing and certification criteria that are adopted by the states. These criteria include education and experience requirements, as well as a testing requirement. The AQB recently enacted changes to these criteria. There will likely be some variations on exactly how each jurisdiction implements the changes, but anyone acquiring a new credential on or after January 1, 2008 will have to meet the new criteria. The complete criteria are available online at the The Appraisal Foundation website.
TAIPS has prepared a table showing the education requirements for each credential level (licensed, certified residential and certified general) and the courses that we provide to meet those requirements. Click here to view these tables.
